Gender-sensitive approach was adopted throughout all research and participatory planning activities as well as during the monitoring of local processes and the inter-regional interchange. Gender-specific roles, needs, constraints, access to services, resources and benefits from the organizations were also identified.

Local teams received gender-sensitive training to ensure that gender was mainstreamed into case studies analysis. Aiming to achieve greater social equity,

action-oriented research agendas include actions designed to respond to both male and female farmers demands.

During the inter-regional exchange special consideration was given to highlight the importance of working with mixed-gender organizations, men and women, heeding both groups needs and proposals.
